Marine Affairs Analysis and Assessment Project

Something that best represents my time in my major (Marine Affairs) would be from MAR 316 – Science In Society. This is because at the end of the semester, I gave an oral presentation, accompanied by visuals, to demonstrate the differences between various naval ports and shipyards throughout the United States and how each is affected by and reacting to climate change. The project also outlined the political, cultural, and economical impact of climate change on naval port infrastructure. The analyzation of this information demonstrates that I can use info from my major and present it to those who may not understand naval port infrastructure while touching on 3 key aspects as well. This would be an example of a soft skill because it’s a communication skill. A hard skill from my major would be from my Ocean & Coastal Law class in which I’ve learned how to analyze and interpret previous legal proceedings as well as comparing them to other cases rulings. Another soft skill that isn’t demonstrated in my transcript is my leadership skills using my knowledge I’ve learned from my EHS internship. I’ve grown a lot and became a mentor towards some other of the interns in which I showed them around the shipyard and what to do in certain situations. My bosses started to jokingly call me the “Vice President of Interns” and it ended up being sort of true towards the end when we presented our projects and worked on our independent projects for the company as well.
