Last week I was extended the offer to accompany President Herbert to the Augusta State House to meet with legislators and other private universities. I represented the marine-based majors the school has to offer while Dawson Turcotte (UNE student) represented the medical-based majors. I had an unreal experience being able to sit down in meetings with legislators in the afternoon with President Herbert and even got to meet with the President of the Maine Senate, Troy Jackson. I’ve also met quite a lot of other interesting people such as an ambassador of France and representatives from Taiwan! It was a great learning experience for me since marine policy is closely related, especially since the state of Maine has multiple waterways and borders the ocean.
